Meet the Steering Group

Meet Steering Group

The steering group meets regulary throughout the year to plan events and co-ordinate the network.

Victoria Betton

I work for Leeds Mental Health Teaching NHS Trust where I have responsibility for promoting partnerships and social inclusion. I lead work on the arts for the Trust and was involved in initiating the Arts and Minds network and have been involved ever since. I have three young children who keep me far too busy and occasionally find a few minutes to do a bit of art work myself.

Aban Wallum

I started initially with completing a fine art degree, but then became an Occupational Therapist. I became one of the founder member of St Marys Art Forum in 2000 which is facilitated by service users. I have been part of the Arts and Minds Network since 2003. I look forward to seeing the Network grow more and more.

Tricia Thorpe

I am a service user and have been part of the Arts and Minds Network since 2003. Also a volunteer for the trust. I have always been passionate about the Arts, and have received qualifacations in fine art, photography and multi-media.

I feel that been creative can help break barriers, and help self esteem and self belief.

Sylvie Fourcin

Director Artlink West Yorkshire

I have been involved in Arts and Minds since the beginning, and have seen it as an essential way of linking up all kinds of people involved with and experiencing mental health. I was also very much part of the process of fundraising and selecting the recent Arts Development Manager, and am sure that things for the network will now take off now that Linda is in post. Artlink West Yorkshire has a remit of providing high quality artistic experiences for vulnerable groups, and has been effective as a community arts organisation since 1979. We are now in the exciting stages of raising funds to renovate the old victorian property that we are based in, to transform it into a beacon for arts and mental health within inner city Leeds.

I am a Jewish artist, in her mid 50s, a writer and performer who has voice at the centre of my work. My paid work is manager of Information for Mental Health, an information service that aims to broaden and deepen understanding about mental health, distress and healing. I am passionate about the arts and believe that creativity is an essential part of our humanness.

Mary Penford

I’ve always had an interest in using creative arts to develop self expression, since my early days at Art College. It was my passion for the transforming power of creativity and its’ contribution to health & well-being that led me to transfer from the commercial world of design to community arts.I became a member of the working group, representing Skippko Arts Team, and have seen it develop and achieve so much in the past few years.

Claire Paul

I have always had a strong interest in the Arts appreciating others work and (occasionally) creating my own. During my training as an Occupational Therapist, I spent time with START, an arts organisation working with mental health service users in Manchester. This sparked my interest in this area and i have been part of the Arts and Minds Network for the past 2 years. I am really keen to improve participation in creative activity for older people.
